General Classification of MIC Processes

Microbial corrosion, on a ralher arbitrary basis, can be divided into two categories MIC as induced by microorganisms and MIC as induced by macroorganisms. Obviously, the main distinction in this approach is if the organisms involved in corrosion can (or cannot) be seen with the naked eye. 

Microorganisms can be classified according to morphological or physiological properties. 

Myce filamentous fungi-like cells and so forth 

Strict or obligate anaerobes, which will not function in the presence of oxygen. 

Aerobes, which require oxygen in their metabolism.
