Gauge blanks

Foot-operated shears are equipped with a foot treadle the full length of the machine and is pushed downward to move the crosshead. Both manual and foot-operated shears are usually limited to 16 gauge by 52-in. mild-steel capacity. Manual shears are used, primarily, for low production or for an occasional need for light-gauge blanks. [Pg.550]

In fact, the vent on the tank was choked. The gauge air pressure (75 psi or 5 bar) was sufficient to burst the tank (design gauge pressure 5 psi or 0.3 bar). Originally the tank had a 6-in.-diameter vent. But at some time this was blanked off, and a 3-in.-diameter dip branch was used instead as the vent. [Pg.52]

Together, raw data and results from calibration checks, spike recoveries, quality control samples, and blanks are used to gauge accuracy. Analytical performance on replicate samples and replicate portions of the same sample measures precision. Fortification also helps ensure that qualitative identification of analyte is correct. If you spike the unknown in Figure 0-5 with extra caffeine and the area of a chromatographic peak not thought to be caffeine increases, then you have misidentified the caffeine peak. [Pg.81]

Air leakage measurements use a system of controlled negative pressure in which air is pumped out of the respirator to create a fixed negative pressure (usually 1 in water gauge) and the airflow need to maintain this pressure is measured. The airflow is taken as the same as the leakage rate into the respirator. The method requires wearers to hold their breath and the filter canister to be blanked off (otherwise, air will leak through the filter). [Pg.170]

Turn the blank 180° and gauge side A of the front gauge and trim side B. [Pg.564]

Turn the blank 90° to gauge side C against the squaring arm stop and side B against the squaring arm. Trim side D. [Pg.564]

If the side gauge and squaring gauge are properly adjusted, this procedure will eliminate most normal inaccuracies associated with resquaring blanks. [Pg.564]

After the operator has produced a square blank, the back gauge is used for stripping (Fig. 17). Before making a shear cut, be sure that the leading edge is straight... [Pg.564]

Blanking uses a combination of back-gauging and front-gauging stops with the squaring arm to produce accurate, square parts (Fig. 18). [Pg.565]
