Gaseous oxide of azote

In their memoir on gaseous oxide of azote (nitrous oxide) they proposed this new name for the gas. They showed that it is formed by the action of iron, alkali sulphides, stannous chloride, and copper and ammonia, on nitric oxide also by heating ammonium nitrate. The composition was found to be 75 vols. oxygen in 200 vols. of the gas (should be 100). [Pg.730]
