Gallium bromide

There are relatively few kinetic data on the Friedel-Crafts reaction. Alkylation of benzene or toluene with methyl bromide or ethyl bromide with gallium bromide as catalyst is first-order in each reactant and in catalyst. With aluminum bromide as catalyst, the rate of reaction changes with time, apparently because of heterogeneity of the reaction mixture. The initial rate data fit the kinetic expression ... [Pg.580]

Gallium bromide was used as the catalyst in a determination346 of the partial rate factors, by the competition method, for ethylation of some substituted benzenes in 1,2-dichloroethane at 25 °C. No direct rate measurements were made and the results, summarised in Table 80, show the low selectivity and high steric hindrance in the reaction. [Pg.144]

Reaction type (d) also complicates the Friedel-Crafts alkylation of benzene (a type c/b reaction, p. 141) by 1-bromopropane, MeCH2-CH2Br, in the presence of gallium bromide, GaBr3, as Lewis acid... [Pg.108]

Triethylgallium monoetherate, Et3Ga-(Et20), the first reported organometallic componnd of gallium, was isolated from reaction of ethyhnagnesinm bromide with gallium bromide in 1932 (equation 1). ... [Pg.1397]

It is plausible that 2 and bis(hypersilyl)gallium bromide are formed via disproportionation at first. 10 forms formally by elimination of bromotrimethylsilane from the sterically crowded [(Me3Si)3Si]2GaBr. This takes place in the presence of excess Li(thf)3Si(SiMe3)3, and consequently the halosilane reacts further to produce Si(SiMc3)4 (Scheme 1). [Pg.208]
