Gallic acid, first analysis

The green test proposed by Labat (1933 > was the first qualitative test for PBO analysis, based on the colorimetric method used for compounds containing the methylenedioxy phenyl group. The green colour was developed when the substance was heated with concentrated sulfuric and gallic acids. Unfortunately, this test cannot be used for quantitative determinations because of the charring effect of the sulfuric acid and the consequent rapid fading of the colour. [Pg.63]
