As a further guide to the testing of any proposed model, Shelby has proposed the Fundamental Law of Structural Models  

Any model failing to consider and offer an explanation for ail of the existing data (not just that obtained in one particular study) must be considered suspect and incomplete. It follows that an inverse statement of the Fundamental Law of Structural Models can be formulated
