From 4-Hydroxy-3,4-dihydro-2-l-benzotellurin

The distillation of 2-hydroxy-3,4-dihydro-2/f-l-benzotellurins over potassium hydrogen sulfate yielded 2//-l-benzotellurins .  

The following compounds were prepared in this manner  

2//-l-Benzotellurin reacts with elemental halogens or with copper(II) chloride or bromide to give 2//-l-benzotellurin 7e,7e-dihalides.  

The yields of the reactions with elemental halogens are almost quantitative, and with the copper(II) halides 82%. 

2//-l-Benzotellurin and methyl iodide produce the telluronium iodide in an exothermic reaction. When the reaction is carried out in the presence of silver perchlorate, the telluronium perchlorate is isolated .
