Fringe order

The fringe order ambiguity the periodical function leads to equally probable... 

The crack opening can be determined (p = 1), if the fringe order n is known. This method has been used in investigations of stationary cracks to determine static and dynamic stress intensity factors, the latter being induced by a shock wave. 

The degree of strain is indicated by a fringe order, which is simply a collection of black bands appearing in close proximity to each other between colors in the stress pattern. As the stress configuration increases, so do the number of black bands in a fringe order.

GHz, 67 GHz and 3.3 GHz. The monochromator output and the fringe patterns behind the three FPI are projected onto photodiode-arrays (see Sect. 4.5.9). The first diode array behind the monochromator monitors the approximate line position to 1 X, which is about 15% of the free spectral range of the first thin etalon. Each of the other three diode arrays measures the diameters of 3 FPI fringes and a microprocessor calculates the fractional fringe order e to 1%.
