Some deaths. Residues (mg/kg fresh weight) >3 in brain, >10 in clotted heart blood, >6 in kidney, and up to 20 in liver Blood lead concentrations, in mg/L, increased from <0.1 at start to 0.1 after 24 h, 3.2 at 7 days, to 6.8 at 14 days. There were some deaths at day 21 and survivors had 0.6 mg Pb/kg blood FW. All dosed birds had immunosuppressive effects, as seen by lowered hemagglutination titers to sheep red blood cells... 

Extracts of toxic isolates of M. aeruginosa or a purified peptide toxin injected into the bloodstream or the peritoneal cavity of mice elicit hepatotoxic effects (5-7,8). The fresh weight of the liver is greatly increased, and sinusoidal congestion, hemorrhage, and necrosis of the liver are observed. A lethal dose of purified toxin also induces multiple thrombi in the lungs and causes a marked reduction in the number of circulating blood platelets (6,7). 

To increase the growth of hairy roots, the influence of the sucrose concentration in the WP liquid medium was tested (Fig. 10). The fastest growth was obtained with 8% sucrose (8.91 g fresh weight after 19 days). A similar effect was observed to that described in the previous experiment, i. e. the total alkaloid content decreased with the higher sucrose concentration in the medium, whereas the amount of 7P-hydroxyhyoscyamine increased up to 0.012% dry weight in the media with 8% and 10% sucrose. The content of littorine produced by the hairy roots particularly decreased with higher sucrose concentrations in the medium.
