Free radicals acyloxy, decarboxylation

The studies of Bartlett and his coworkers (1) on decompositions of Jb-butyl peresters of a wide range of carboxylic acids clearly showed two mechanistic pathways for the production of free radicals. The first mechanism is the simple homolysis of the 0-0 bond to give an acyloxy -butoxy (pair) intermediate which can decarboxylate in a subsequent step. This mechanism (A-1) pertains to the unimolecular free radical pro-... [Pg.134]
