Formatting a Report

Layout Use 12-point Times New Roman font and double spacing to allow space for comments and corrections. Number all pages, including those in appendices. 

Organization A standard lab report or research paper should be formatted with sections. 

Title—give the title of your experiment or research report a meaningful name. 

The title is followed by your name and the date submitted. If you worked with partners, list their names next to yours, but put an asterisk after your name to indicate that you wrote the report. 

Abstract—the abstract should be able to stand alone. This means that someone should be able to read only the abstract and understand the basic nature of your report. For this reason, a good abstract clearly identifies the purpose of the
