Forging brass

The products for these appHcations are fabricated from materials from brass mills (manufacturers of copper and alloy mill products), wire mills, and foundries (manufacturers of castings). Brass mill products consist of sheet, strip, plate, rod, bar, tube, pipe, forgings, extmsions, and mechanical wire. Wire mills make electrical wire. Foundry castings consist primarily of plumbing products and industrial valves and pumps. 

Since tin is much less volatile than zinc, bronzes are more versatile than brasses. The low volatility of tin allowed bronze alloys to be cast and forged into various shapes, including large bells. These formed the basis of the first large scale communication systems. Every settlement had its own bell tower for communicating with its residents, and with other settlements. 

For 1-1/2-inch and smaller, use 600-pound SWP forged, carbon steel, screwed, inside-screw stem, union bonnet, 11 to 13% chrome stainless steel trim. For air and condensate service use 150-pound SWP brass, screwed, rising stem, inside screw. 

Muntz matal A form of brass containing 60% copper, 39% zinc, and small amounts of lead and iron. Stronger than alpha-brass, it is used for hot forgings, brazing tods, and large nuts and bolts. It is named after G. F. Muntz (1794-1857).
