Branching of the esterifying acid, such as in flumethasone pivalate (trimethyl acetate) may, because of steric hindrance, slow down the rate of hydrolysis, thereby increasing effectiveness. Fluocinolone acetonide (Table 14-1) incorporates all these desirable features.
