Let us carry this analogy one step further. Suppose we go on to cook our pancakes. We accidentally bum three of them and one falls on the floor. So even though we had enough flour for 15 pancakes, we finished with only 11 pancakes. If this were a chemical reaction, the 11 pancakes would be our actual yield, the amount of product actually produced by a chemical reaction.
