Within days, staff was detailed to study at least two or three sites in the state. During the interim, a contingent of the manufacturer s agricultural chemicals division met with the staffs of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) and the FDER. Assurances were made that there was no way for the material to be found in groundwater in Florida because of its warm climate and more alkaline waters. In retrospect, we believe these highly technically oriented people really believed these statements, but their credibility suffered when our laboratory reported positive findings a few weeks later. [Pg.539]
