Floor Polish

Today the most important applications are in surface coatings, including some use as French polish, as adhesives and cements, including valve capping and optical cements, for playing card finishes and for floor polishes. The material also continues to be used for hat stiffening and in the manufacture of sealing wax.

Emulsion polymerization is widely used to produce polymers in the form of emulsions, such as paints and floor polishes. It also used to polymerize many water insoluble vinyl monomers, such as styrene and vinyl chloride. In emulsion polymerization, an agent emulsifies the monomers. Emulsifying agents should have a finite solubility. They are either ionic, as in the case of alkylbenzene sulfonates, or nonionic, like polyvinyl alcohol. 

Acrylics are used in floor polish, hairsprays, latex paints, and glues as well as plastic items and packaging. 

P.R.12 is also employed in a series of special applications, such as automotive cleaners, floor polish, shoe polish, etc., and it is frequently used to color office articles and leather. 

Uses. About 35-40% of the methanol made is converted to formaldehyde. That s not because the embalming business is so good. Formaldehyde is a feedstock for amino and phenolic resins, which are used as adhesives in plywood, and in the automotive and appliance industry to make parts (all the agitators in washing machines used to be made out of phenolic resins). It is used as feedstock for hexamethylene tetramine, used in electronic plastics for pentaerythritol, used for making enamel coatings and for floor polish and inks for butanediol, a chemical intermediate and for acetic acid, which is widely used itself as a feedstock and solvent and warrants its own treatrnent later on. In the textile business, formaldehyde is used to make fire retardants, mildew resistant linens, and permanent press clothing. 

Ester polymers of methacrylic and acrylic acid are important in a wide range of applications. They are used in dental materials, glazing, adhesives, plastic bottles, elastomers, floor polishes, paint bases, plastic films, and leather finishes, to mention only a few. 

No-wax tile has long been important in the residential market. Such products have a high gloss surface coating that resists abrasion and soiling. When properly designed and maintained, no-wax tile retains its shiny appearance for an extended period of time without application of floor polish.
