Flanges, blind screwed

Two flanges form the top, and two form the bottom of the electrolyzer. These pairs of flanges consist of one screw-on flange and one blind flange. 

The screw-on flanges, as the name implies, are screwed on to the body of the electrolyzer (pipe nipple). The blind flanges are bolted to the screw-on flanges, with a Teflon gasket placed in between each blind and screw-on flange. When the bolts and nuts are tightened, the pair of flanges are sealed. 

Apply thread seal and Teflon tape to the NPT ends of the straight 34" NPT x %" tubing Yor-Lok fittings, and screw and tighten them into the four holes in the top and bottom blind flanges. 

To complete the construction of the electrolyzer, the two blind flanges are attached to the nipple via the screw on flanges. 

Apply thread sealant to both sides of a Teflon gasket and to the areas covered by the gasket on both the screw-on flange and the blind flange.

Welded joints in steel and steel alloys are more likely to remain tight through a fire than any other type. In large-size pipes, welded joints cost less than screwed or flanged joints and should be used in all cases except where the installation of slip blinds requires the availability of flanges.
