Fire results from a fast chemical reaction between a combnstible substance and oxygen, accompanied by the generation of heat. There are fom requirements for fire to occur  

Oxygen - except in special circumstances, the chief sonrce is air 

These four requirements are often represented as the fire tetrahedron, see Fig. 7.4. 

Fuel plus oxygen produces combustion and heat. If the fuel is natural gas (methane) the reaction is written as
