Ficus pantoniana, alkaloids

Although unrelated, these three families are the source of unique alkaloids that share common features. They are ficine (61) and isoficine (62) from Ficus pantoniana King (Moraceae) (107), vochysine (63) from the fruit of Vochysia guianensis (Aubl.) Poir. (Vochysiaceae) (108), and phyllospadine (64) from the seaweed Phyllospadix iwatensis Makino (Zosteraceae) (109). [Pg.296]

The first flavonoidal alkaloids to be isolated were ficine (4) and isoficine (5) in 1965 from Ficus pantoniana King. (Moraceae) (i). These alkaloids have not... [Pg.68]

Pyrrolidine alkaloid, C20H19NO4, Mr 337.38, cryst, mp. 235 °C, originating from Ficus pantoniana (Mor-aceae). F. as well as the isomeric compound isofidne, mp. 168 °C, also from F. pantoniana, were the first alkaloids with a flavonoid partial structure to be discovered. [Pg.229]

Ficus septica Forst. f. ( ) had been shown to elaborate i-tylophorine and d-tylocrebrine as well as a third alkaloid, septicine, C24H29O4N (mp 136°), which was regarded as 6,7-bis(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)-6,7-dihydroindolizidine (93). More recently F. pantoniana has yielded a new type of alkaloid, ficine, C20H19O4N (mp 235°), and isoficine (mp 167°). Most of the evidence for the structure of these alkaloids (XXXVIII and XXXIX, respectively) was obtained by spectral studies. However, an equilibrium mixture of the two results when ficine is heated with 70% hydrochloric acid. Furthermore, alkali treatment or pyrolysis in vacuo of ficine generate chrysin (XL) (94). This is the first reported example of an alkaloid containing a flavonoid nucleus. [Pg.562]
