Ordered body-centered cubic structures were observed by shearing aqueous gels made from anionic PtBS-PMANa block copolymer micelles [163]. Abstract We present a method for simulation of collagen gels and more generally for materials comprised of a fibrillar network. The method solves a representative microstructural problem on each finite element in lieu of a constitutive equation. The method captures key features of microstructural rearrangement while maintaining the ability to perform simulations on the (large) functional length scale. 

In a way partly analogous to the above method, if a fibrillar network of bacterial cellulose is interpenetrated with various monomers or reactive resins that are subsequently solidified, the resulting composites may be expected to exhibit a significant reinforcement of the substrate polymers in mechanical and/or thermal performance. Intermediate filaments are about lOnm in diameter, and are more stable (strongly bound) than actin filaments. Like actin filaments they function in the maintenance of cell shape by bearing tension. Intermediate filaments organise the internal tridimensional structure of the ceU, anchoring organelles and serving as structural components of the nuclear lamina (a dense fibrillar network inside the nucleus) and sarcomeres.
