Similarly, a book on the Adhesion of piles in stiff clays is more about frictional sliding of the pile as it is pulled out of the clay, rather like the fiber pullout test described in Chapter 16. The measnrement of adhesion between fibers and matrix in a fibrous composite is much more difficult than the measurement of the systems described above. Two methods that have been investigated in the past are the fiber pullout and short beam fragmentation test. The fiber pullout test consists of a drop or disk of adhesive or matrix material placed on the fiber. The fiber is then pulled through an opening which strips the adhesive drop from the fiber. [Pg.248]
