Famesenes famesyl pyrophosphate

When geranyl pyrophosphate reacts with isopentenyl pyrophosphate, the result is the 15-carbon famesyl pyrophosphate, which is an intermediate in the biosynthesis of sesquiterpenes such as famesene. Oxidation can then provide sesquiterpenoids such as famesol and juvenile hormone (Fig. 116.2).
