Prof il0 Extrusion Linos. Many extrusion lines are usedforthe production of profiles. Profile lines also come in many shapes and forms. A typical extrusion line consists of an extruder, a die, a calibrating unit, a cooling unit, a measurement device, a haul-off, and a coder or cutter or saw (see Fig. 31). A gear pump may be used if the dimensional tolerance of the extruded product is quite small. On some profile lines a film or foil is laminated to the extruded profile. Extruded profiles have an enormous range of shapes and sizes. 

Many articles, bottles and containers in particular, are made by blow moulding techniques of which there are many variations. In one typical process a hollow tube is extruded vertically downwards on to a spigot. Two mould halves close on to the extrudate (known in this context as the parison ) and air is blown through the spigot to inflate the parison so that it takes up the shape of the mould. As in injection moulding, polymers of low, intermediate and high density each find use according to the flexibility required of the finished product. 

Typical food products that are extruded include sugars and sweets which may be applied on bread and cakes, but also ingredients for soups (herbs) or cereals (fibers, vitamins, etc). Food powders may also be pressed into shapes such as cubes, which may be applied as concentrated bouillons, herbs and taste enhancers for use in soups. Here the ease of dosing and the stability (prevention of oxidation of the flavors) are the reason to make them into cubes. 

Commercial adsorbents are generally produced in bound forms (0.5-6.0 mm diameters) in regular particle shapes (beads, pellets, extrudates, granules, etc.). The purpose is to reduce pressure drops in adsorbers. Clay, alumina, polymers, pitch, etc. are used as binders, which typically constitute 10-20% (by weight) of the final product. The binder phase usually contains a network (arteries) of meso- and macropores (0.5-50.0 pm diameters) to facilitate the transport of the adsorbate... 

In fiber optic applications, LCPs can be extruded into a variety of shapes and sizes using conventional extrusion equipment found in typical fiber optic wire and cable production plants. 

However, in accordance with the characteristics of the body and dependent on the strain caused by deformation, the hub is still visible in the shape of a core , i.e. lamination, in the dried or fired product, whereby this lamination may develop into an S-crack typical for a screw extruder with a double-wing end auger.
