Extended nip calenders

Based on the Janus Concept calender, Voith developed the Janus MK 2. This latest multi nip-calender version is mainly characterized by the stack being no longer arranged vertically but inclined at a 45° angle offering operational and technological advantages (Fig. 6.72).

Traditionally, calendering has been performed with Yankee cyhnders or soft calenders. In view of the bulk saving, this classical technology is increasingly being replaced by extended nip calendering - see Section 6.9.3.5.
