Exhaust purification

The fact that Fischer-Tropsch fuels contain neither sulfur nor aromatics may become a strong selling point for the process. Less sulfur in the fuel has, of course, a direct effect on the sulfur oxides in the emissions, and the newly developed exhaust purification systems for lean burning engines that can be introduced means that all emissions, including GO2 and NOx, will diminish. Aromatics promote particulate formation in the combustion of diesel fuels and are therefore undesirable. We discuss this further in Ghapter 10. 

As early as 1952, perovskites were proposed as catalytic materials for CO oxidation[55]. Twenty years later, their potential application as catalysts for automobile exhaust purification... 

In our laboratory we have observed similar behavior in the case of styrene. With styrene, a more detailed study of the effects of drying has been made, and all of the kinetic results can be readily explained by postulating the coexistence of more than one ionic process under the conditions of the most exhaustive purification and drying (21,22), reverting to a single ionic species under the conditions of moderate dryness (22). This behavior reverts further to the normal free radical process when no extraordinary means of drying the monomer are employed (4, 21).
