Europium iron garnet

Initial attempts to measure used europium iron garnet in which the Eu is magnetically ordered by exchange polarisation effects from the iron... [Pg.546]

In the gallium-substituted europium iron garnet the gallium goes almost entirely (x < 1-6) to the tetrahedral d site to give Eu3 [Fe2](Ga tFe3 JO12... [Pg.551]

In europium iron garnet the magnetisation is in the [111] direction, but in samarium iron garnet at low temperatures it is close to the [110] direction [42]. Accordingly there is a significant difiFerence between the spectra of a EuIG absorber and a SmIG source. The latter shows three fields of 634,484, and... [Pg.552]

Fig. 17.9 Eu spectra of gallium-substituted europium iron garnets of the type Eu3Fc5-xGa,Oi2 showing the reduction in the exchange intercation at the Eu ion with increasing gallium substitution. [Ref. 40, Fig. 3]... Fig. 17.9 Eu spectra of gallium-substituted europium iron garnets of the type Eu3Fc5-xGa,Oi2 showing the reduction in the exchange intercation at the Eu ion with increasing gallium substitution. [Ref. 40, Fig. 3]...
The broad linewidth (10-7 mm s ) of the 97-keV resonance also prevents resolution of the magnetic structure in europium iron garnet, but again using the known parameters it is possible to analyse the broadened envelope numerically [66]. The ratio 2-10(15) from which... [Pg.557]

The third example of a lanthanide garnet is provided by europium iron garnet, in which the ground state of the europic ion is Fo, with the first excited state Fi at about 480 K. An exchange field has matrix elements between these two states. [Pg.361]

Yttrium alloys have many applications. The metal doped with rare earths such as europium is used as phosphor for color television receivers. When added to iron, chromium, vanadium, niobium, and other metals it enhances resistance of these metals and their alloys to high temperature oxidation and recrystallization. It is a deoxidizer for vanadium and other nonferrous metals. Yttrium-aluminum garnets are used in lasers and in jewelery gemstones. Yttrium-iron garnets are used as transmitters and as transducers of acoustic energy. [Pg.977]

Use Phosphors for color TV tubes (alloy with europium), yttrium-iron garnets for microwave filters, stabilizer for high-temperature service materials (zirconia and silicon nitride refractories). [Pg.1340]

The garnets have a very complicated crystal structure, which may be represented by the general formula M3Fc50i2 here, M represents a rare earth ion such as samarium, europium, gadolinium, or yttrium. Yttrium iron garnet (YjFesOjj), sometimes denoted YIG, is the most common material of this type. [Pg.813]
