Euphenyl acetate

Extensive introduction of deuterium (at positions marked ) has also been observed in the acid-catalysed partial backbone isomerization of euphenyl acetate (548) into isoeuphenyl acetate (549). Only 10% of the material was left free from deuterium as the result of undergoing non-stop rearrangement, the remainder suffering a complicated sequence of deprotonation-deuteriation steps to account for the observed isotope distribution.
