Estimation of fracture strength

The bulk modulus may be obtained in a similar way. In this case, the force AF needed to compress the solid by a distance Ar is computed for the three axial directions. The pressure is obtained from AF, and the corresponding volume decrease is obtained from Ar. 

Computer calculations, which are far more sophisticated, give very accurate values of bulk modulus and elastic constants.
