The cumulenic butenolide (20), also isomeric with matricaria lactone, has been isolated from several species of Conyza, Boltonia and Erigeron (25, 28) this butenolide was the first cumulene to be found in Nature. A reduced form of matricaria lactone (viz. 21) occurs in scvL ral species of Aster, Boltonia and Conyza (25, 29) and the cumulene (22) related to (21) has been isolated from the aerial parts of Erigeron canadensis L.
