Ergot-peptide alkaloids

The recent isolation of the new alkaloid 18 might throw new light on the biogenesis of ergot peptide alkaloids. It differs from the postulated intermediate 67 only in that it has a D-proline configuration in the dioxopiperazine ring and is also very susceptible to methanolysis. After examination of the experimental conditions of isolation it was... [Pg.30]

Many investigators have attempted to assess the role of lolines in fescue toxicity that is commonly seen in cattle fed high levels of endophyte-infected tall fescue (18, 20, 21, 34). The symptoms of fescue toxicity are similar to classical ergotism and consist of prolactin reduction, increased body temperature, reproductive problems and dry gangrene of the extremeties (hooves, tips of tail and ears) which is characteristic of vasoconstriction. The ergot-peptide alkaloids are also known constituents of endophyte-infected tall fescue (34). [Pg.334]
