Ergoline-like compounds

The dopaminergic activities of some newer ergolines (1 ) and ergolenes (1 ) have been studied. Compound (CH 29-717) is potent (10 x 15a) in suppression of hyperprolactinemia in rats. ° In behavioral and biochemical models 14c (CM 29-712) is generally bromocriptine-like in its DA agonist effects. pjjg ergolene 15b (CF 25-397) induces... 

This section of the chapter will describe alkaloids identified in fungal strains that are biosynthetically related to ergot alkaloids. These compounds carry a modified ergoline scaffold like epoxyagroclavine-I (168) or even an obviously different skeleton like aurantioclavine (176) (Fig. 4.10) (88, 91,117). 

Most L-tryptophan-derived secondary products still possess the indole ring system of this amino acid. Some compounds, however, are quinoline, pyrrole or benzene derivatives. Additional rings may be present yielding complicated structures, like that of ergoline and / -carboline alkaloids (cf. the formulas of ergotamine, Corynanthe, Strychnos, Iboga and Aspidosperma-type alkaloids).
