Equivalent Weight and Valency

Let V and E be respectively the valency and equivalent weight of an element and A be the atomic weight. 

Now one atom of the element will combine with V atoms of hydrogen, since valency is the number of hydrogen atoms which an atom of the element combine with. 

1 part by weight of hydrogen combines with — parts of the element 

When V = 1, A = E i.e. for monovalent elements atomic weight is same as the equivalent weight.
