Elimination of functional moieties

From actual practice it has been observed that there are a good number of essential functional moieties which are required primarily to help in various construction reactions, but interestingly they do not appear in the tai et-drug-molecule . Therefore, it is extremely important and almost necessary S3mthetically to have adequate means and ways of eliminating such functional moieties completely. [Pg.31]

A few such recognized practical ways through which the elimination of functional moieties could be afforded are as rmder  [Pg.31]

Explanation. An aldehyde or a carboxylic acid rmdergoes reduction to give rise to an ALCOHOL. The resulting alcohol finally yields RCH2— H by two difierent ways, namely  [Pg.31]

Nevertheless, the alcohol (RCH2—OH) on being treated with / ara-toluene sulphonic acid 3delds the corresponding ester. [Pg.32]

R—Nickel = Raney Nickel (acts as catalyst in reduction ). [Pg.32]
