Electrostatic potential maps 1-methyl-1-phenylethyl cation

The electrostatic potential maps for the two carbocations (Figure 11.11) show the greater dispersal of positive charge in 1-methyl-1-phenylethyl cation compared with tert-hutyl cation. 

The respective electrostatic potential maps show the positive charge is more concentrated (bluer) at the tertiary carbon in ferf-butyl cation than at the benzylic tertiary carbon in 1-methyl-l-phenylethyl cation. The color range is the same for both models.
