Figure 15.1) showed minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values in lysogeny broth that were superior to that of silver nitrate (AgNOj), an appropriate reference for the study. Shortly thereafter, the dinuclear NHC-Ag complex 3 was synthesized and encapsulated into Techophilic - a family of hydrophilic polyether-based pol)mrethanes - by electrospinning before being... [Pg.595]

Recently, PCL containing bovine bone hydroxyapatite (HA) and hydroxyapa-tite/Ag (HA-Ag) composite nanoflbers were prepared via an electrospinning process [43]. The morphology, structure and thermal properties of the PCL, PCL/HA, and PCL/HA-Ag composite nanoflbers before and after immersion in SBF were characterized. SEM images revealed that the nanoflbers were well-oriented and incorporated the HA-Ag nanoparticles well. Mechanical study revealed that the yield stress of PCL/HA-Ag composite nanoflbers showed a higher value than that of PCL/HA composite, possibly due to the addition of metallic Ag nanoparticles [43]. [Pg.270]

Frey et al. [101,102] have shown that an amine-salt solution (EDA with 56% KSCN) at 8% w/w cellulose can be converted into nanofibers (Figure 10.50) by using an electrospinning process. Interestingly, the fiber resembled cotton fibers. Thus, so far these recent, positive achievements indicate that the amine-salt process should be further developed before commercialization. [Pg.710]

Multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT)/PS solution blends were prepared by adding 1% to 10% (wt.% to PS) of MWCNTs to The MWCNT/DMF mixture was mechanically stirred for half an hour. Then 25% (wt.% to solution) PS was added to this mixture. To prepare for FeCls/PS solutions, 40% or 60% (wt.% to PS) of FeCls were first added to DMF and stirred until FeCl3 was fully dissolved ( 10 min). A15% (wt.% to solution) PS was then added to the mixture. All polymer solutions were stirred at 50°C overnight in a closed glass vial. The solutions were cooled to room temperature before electrospinning. Spinning of the MWCNT/PS fibers was done at room temperature (23 2°C) and the RH was kept at 19 1% RH. [Pg.129]

A variety of methods have been employed to functionalize polyesters with bioactive molecules. One approach is to graft the biomolecule in polyester before it is subject to the electrospinning process. Grafting methods permit control of the extent of functionalization in all stages. However, using this method after electrospinning, a part of the bioactive molecules is located in the core of the fibers, inaccessible for the cells. Therefore, an additional step for polymer purification can be necessary. This step can increase the cost of scaffold production. [Pg.171]

A number of areas of study are developing in the novel DDS field. These include developments in polymer science and advanced manufacturing technologies such as electrospinning. However, there remain many questions which must be answered before biotextile-based DDSs can progress to the clinical applications stage. [Pg.153]

In situ generation of NPs in the solution before the electrospinning process... [Pg.101]

A notable number of papers deal with the in situ formation of NPs in the solutimi before the electrospinning process. Many of them are related to Ag NP preparation. [Pg.101]
