Effusion analogy

Vapor pressures of phases in these systems were measured by the Knudsen effusion technique. Use of mass spectrometer-target collection apparatus to perform thermodynamic studies is discussed. The prominent sublimation reactions for these phases below 2000 K was shown to involve formation of elemental plutonium vapor. Thermodynamic properties determined in this study were correlated with corresponding values obtained from theoretical predictions and from previous measurements on analogous intermetallics. [Pg.103]

H-bonded sheets analogous to those of black phosphorus are possible when two thirds of the trans-fusion between the super-cyclohexane chairs is replaced by effusions. Such a super-black phosphorus type sheet structure may be obtained by cutting through a cubic diamond lattice (Figure 6) rather than a hexagonal one [28],... [Pg.82]

Indices i and j refer to adjacent layers, kj and kj (W m s ) are thermal conductivities, and D, and Dj are the thermal diffusivities. Thermal effusivity is analogous to a refractive index for thermal waves. Reflection and absorption may be evaluated by the thermal reflection coefficient ... [Pg.2258]

Exposure to asbestos occasionally causes benign pericardial effusion, thickening, and calcification (Figs. 8.22 and 8.23) (Davies et al. 1991). These manifestations are analogous to the effects of asbestos on the pleura, and pericardial disease is usually associated with pleural disease. The pericardial thickening may result in constrictive pericarditis with functional cardiac consequences. Both anatomical and functional aspects of pericardial constriction may be demonstrated by magnetic resonance imaging (Al )arad et al. 1993). [Pg.233]
