Effect on film thickness

There are few principles for measuring VOCs by using phthalocyanines and porphyrins as the sensitive layers described in literature. Some effects of solvent vapors on organic films were suggested in literatures, such as effects on film thickness via swelling, effects on intermolecular interactions via intercalation, specific... 

It was found that a selection of solvent has effect on film thickness which is related to the boiling point of solvent. Fast evaporating solvents such as n-butyl acetate and o-xylene gave thicker coatings. Thinner films were obtained when mesitylene or diglyme were used. 

Computationally it was found that the influence of increasing Re on film thickness is non-monotonic where an initial decrease in thickness is followed by an increase [40]. For Ca< 0.01, however, inertial forces do not have an effect on film thickness. Experimentally determined film thickness correlations were hsted by Edvinsson and Irandoust [41]. Thulasidas et al. [34] foimd experimentally in 2 mm channels that the film thickness was almost the same in horizontal and downward flows but tvrice as much in upward flow. 

For contacts with large entrainment velocities (Case 3), the influence of thermal effects is particularly evident. As the transition from rolling to sliding occurs, the magnitude of the pressure spike decreases considerably, and the location of pressure maximum moves upstream. The corresponding film shapes develop a less pronounced exit constriction, and the central film thickness decreases to about 75% of the Isothermal value. These thermal Influences are also present but to a lesser extent for contacts with small entrainment velocities, ( Case 5 ) as shown in Pig. 13. The effect of water is very slight. Any effect might be due to its effect on film thickness and heat transfer.
