Economic filling of space

We discuss the reasons for and the importance of this principle in more detail in Section 18.2. The frequent observance of the principle of most economic filling of space, i.e. of purely geometric aspects, is also remarkable of the 95 elements with known struc-... [Pg.152]

In the meantime, there is a long line of books and records awaiting treatment at the Center and its field workshops. The input has to be controlled because of limited facilities. More space is needed, to be filled by more technicians, more material, and equipment to do this more funds are needed. But in a country with serious economic problems, the Centers priorities are not considered of immediate urgency. [Pg.46]

Larger capacity storage vessels are basically the same double-walled containers, but the evacuated space is generally filled with powdered or layered insulated material. For economic reasons, the containers are usually cylindrical with dished ends, approximating the shape of a sphere, which would be expensive to build. Containers must be constructed to withstand the weights and pressures that will be encountered and adequately vented to permit the escape of evaporated gas. Containers also should be equipped with rupture discs on both inner and outer vessels to release pressure if the safety relief valves should fail. [Pg.333]

The old design of cell is based on a lead-lined tank filled with aqueous sulphuric acid, and the spent chromic acid solution in porous ceramic pots was placed in the tank. The anodes were lead rods dipped into the ceramic pots and the cathode was the lining to the tank. The plant was obviously operated totally as a batch process. More modern and economic cells are now available they are based on a bipolar filter press concept with lead alloy anodes, steel cathodes and a Nafion protonconducting membrane. The energy consumption and space time yields with such... [Pg.149]
