With the beginning of the 1990s the interest in hydrides was somehow refocused. Firstly, interest evolved in other hydrides of Mg with transition metals, beyond already well-researched Mg Ni stoichiometry. Mg and Fe do not alloy to form 

One can notice that in (1.13) the Fe in the (FeH ) complex is reduced to metallic Fe, the process that requires a major rearrangement of atoms. Therefore it is not surprising that the kinetics of desorption was poor while being controlled by diffusion of the metal atoms. 

A stable aluminum hydride, AlHj, has been known to exist since some time. It has been prepared by various techniques including the direct reaction of metallic A1 with atomic hydrogen by Siegel [105], AIH3 is soluble in ether when freshly synthesized but polymerizes while aged and forms insoluble precipitate whose structure depends on the degree of polymerization of -(AIH3)- monomer. 

With the coming of a New Millenninm, and in the dramatic context of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks other drivers for hydride research became evident energy secnrity as to secure uninterrupted supply of energy for still nnsnstainable world
