Dynamic vulcanization process

The test were made aimed for determining a threshold value of content of elastomer in the iPP/EOE mixture, which was subject of the dynamic vulcanization process, considering the influence of these parameters on variable properties of iPP. A series of tests was made, in which the proportions of PP and elastomer Engage I were changed in the range 15-60%, with continnons addition of the cross-linking system (silane A-172/ dicnmyl peroxide) 3/0.03% in relation to elastomer and antioxidant additive 0.2%. 

The common raw materials in the dynamic vulcanization process to make this TPV are basically ACM, nylon, and a proprietary curative package. 

ExxonMobil first commercially Introduced DIMS (bromlnated copolymer of Isobutylene and para-methylstyrene) In the 1990s. In 2004, ExxonMobil and Yokohama, through a cooperative arrangement, announced the development of a new TPV based on DIMS and nylon to produce a less expensive tire Innerllner with better air permeability resistance and less weight. This new TPV can actually be blown Into a film to be used as the innerliner to reduce the loss of air from the tire. This film Is made by ExxonMobil at their Pensacola, Florida, mixing plant, where the dynamic vulcanization process Is carried out. 

Isobutylene is used to make butyl rubber (HR), which is mixed with polypropylene in a dynamic vulcanization process to produce a thermoplastic vulcanizate (PP/IIR) that is more resistant to air permeabiiity than other TPVs. 

Reactive blends of rubber and plastics are well known thermoplastic elastomers [132]. However, only a few blends with PBT are described.
