DuPont Qualicon

DuPonts Qualicon, which received several awards for innovation, is one example of a new business that was developed by this kind of approach. The idea of developing machinery and kits for automated genetics-based pathogen detection was generated by the firm s central R D operation. It was then subsequently developed by giving it the status of an independent business unit. In another example, Dow and its partner Cargill set up an independent joint venture to push the development of biopolymers in an independent environment with clearly allocated resources and a defined roadmap and performance targets.
