Dublin Core Schema

Author-provided metadata is often entirely absent. If present, it will likely adhere to a general form (the so-called Dublin Core schema, http //dublincore. org/), of limited utility in scientific, technical, and medical (STM) areas. 

The CML file in turn contains further metadata (according to the Dublin Core schema) and data, the predictable structure of which means fhaf a dafa-scraper could be written to extract the information for re-use by e.g. Piggy-Bank.
