Mechanism of Action. The mechanism of action of this drug is not fully understood. Ribavirin appears to impair viral messenger RNA (mRNA) synthesis, probably by selectively inhibiting enzymes responsible for RNA replication.35 Inadequate viral mRNA production leads to impaired viral protein synthesis, which ultimately curtails viral replication. [Pg.533]
