Dipole moment of ethanol

The dipole moments of ethanol and propane are 1.69 and 0.08 D, respectively. Alcohols are much more polar than alkanes because they have both a polar C—O bond and a polar O—H bond. Alcohols form strong intermolecular hydrogen bonds, and these bonds have an enormous influence on their physical properties. [Pg.294]
