Diorganoarsenic trihalides

Although diorganoarsenic trihalides can be prepared, they are generally unstable and decompose at elevated temperatures. 

Diorganoarsenic(III) chlorides or bromides have been prepared by the redistribution reaction of a 2 1 mixture of the corresponding triorganoarsenic compounds and trihalides. 

Diorganoarsenic compounds react readily with X2 or the equivalent to form the corresponding trihalides in high yields (equations 312 and 313 ° ).
