The values of pA ha+ are in the range of 8.5-14.8 in DMSO. The acidities in aqueous solutions were within 1 unit of that in DMSO. The use of bases such as 4-dimethylaminopyridine (dmap) results in convenient condensation reactions of 2,3-dimethylthiazolium iodide (136) with carboxylic acids to obtain 2-acylmethylidene-3-methylthiazolines (137) in moderate to good yields (Equation (23)) <89S50>.
