Dimethylamino trimethylsilane Pentamethylsilylamine

Although this procedure appears to be wasteful of amine, we have no evidence that there is a higher than stoichiometric consumption of (CH3)2NH if the reaction is conducted as described. Alternately, the (CH3)2NH can be weighed into a suitable glass vessel and passed into the solution of the chlorosilane, using a molar ratio (CH3)38101/(013)2NH of about 1 2.1. 

Characterization is carried out by means of H NMR. Singlets appear for the methyl protons of the silyl group (-0.11 ppm) and for the methyl protons of the amine group (-2.55 ppm). The spectrum is measured using a neat liquid with benzene as an internal standard. Shifts relative to tetramethylsilane are calculated using the factor, 5 benzene = -7.37 ppm relative to TMS.
