Because this is our second encounter with the Froude number it warrants further inspection. Like the other two dozen or so common dimensionless groups in chemical engineering the Froude number can be expressed as a ratio of forces. Specifically, the Froude number can be expressed as the ratio of inertial force to gravitational force. As we will see later, this provides insight to the phenomenon.
