The Hieroglyphica was translated into Latin, French, German, and Italian, and became known throughout Europe. It was a major influence in developing the Renaissance trend for symbolic engravings called emblems or hieroglyphs. These were created by prominent artists, such as Albrecht Diirer and Leonardo da Vinci, and used to encapsulate various fields of knowledge, especially alchemy.
