Dictionary Search with Subject Terms

The Chemical Abstracts have neither thesaurus nor controlled terms. The searcher needs to enter all the synonyms known for a subject term. 

Apart from the singular, plural forms must not be forgotten, just like one-word or two-word versions. 

When the search subject is heavy metal contamination of leakage, it is insufficient to enter the search term ffiAVY METAL. The elements, element symbols, certain compoxmds and Registry Numbers are an essential part of the search strategy. Here is an excerpt from the query profile of the search for heavy metals  

In addition to the spelled out versions, acronyms must always be entered, as shown by TLC and HPLC in the sample below  

American and British differencies in spelling must not be forgotten. CAS itself says that it uses American spelling, but the different results of the following examples justify the use of both
